My Go-To Pregnancy Body Oil: Nourishing and Anti-Stretch Mark Recipe
As I embarked on my pregnancy journey, I was disheartened by how difficult it was to find truly trustworthy skincare for mamas. Even brands I’d once believed in were filled with sneaky additives, low-quality blends, and hidden preservatives. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands, crafting a simple but powerful pregnancy body oil. The results have been nothing short of amazing—my skin has truly soaked up this nourishing, healing blend.
The Recipe: Shea, Sesame, and Frankincense
The base of my pregnancy oil is a rich combination of shea butter and sesame oil, both renowned for their reparative and deeply hydrating properties. Unlike almond oil or other common carrier oils, sesame oil is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, making it incredibly effective for healing and protecting the skin.
My secret weapon? Frankincense essential oil. A few drops of this powerhouse oil work wonders on the skin, building collagen, repairing the dermis, and reducing inflammation. It’s especially effective for scars and stretch marks, making it an essential part of my routine.
Why Sesame Oil?
Sesame oil has been used for centuries due to its potent healing abilities. Its deep color and distinctive smell come from its high concentration of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which are key to preventing and reducing stretch marks and scars.
Sesame oil, with its rich color and distinctive smell, is packed with pure antioxidants—potent anti-inflammatory compounds that work wonders on the skin. It’s known to quickly reduce stretch marks and scars while being a fantastic source of vitamin E.
You might notice that many industrial products designed for stretch marks are loaded with vitamin E, which goes to show how powerful sesame oil can be in not only reducing stretch marks but also deeply nourishing the skin.
Used for millennia, sesame oil is prized for its wide range of benefits. Its nutrient-rich profile makes it a key ingredient in many cosmetic products for both skin and hair. The high concentration of fatty acids gives sesame oil healing, moisturizing, soothing, and antioxidant properties. In fact, a study by KAMRANI evaluated its effects on stretch marks. Over the course of 20 weeks, 100 pregnant women were divided into two groups—one applying sesame oil daily and the other a placebo. The results indicated that sesame oil can effectively help in preventing stretch marks.
Here’s why I love it:
- Healing Power
Sesame oil is known to stimulate wound healing and improve blood flow, which helps with the regeneration of skin cells—important for fading purple stretch marks. - Moisturizing and Hydrating
The oleic acid in sesame oil helps strengthen the skin’s barrier, keeping moisture locked in and your skin soft and flexible. This reduces water loss and helps prevent stretch marks as your belly grows. - Boosting Elasticity
Rich in linoleic acid, sesame oil helps synthesize ceramides, which are crucial for maintaining the skin’s ability to stretch without tearing. This improved elasticity helps your skin recover more easily and is essential for avoiding stretch marks. - Antioxidant Protection
Sesame oil is a powerhouse of antioxidants, including vitamin E, which defends your skin from free radical damage. The sesamin found in sesame oil also boosts your body’s own antioxidant enzymes, protecting collagen fibers from breaking down.
Why I Made This Recipe
When I couldn’t find a product I trusted, I turned to botanical skincare recommendations and my own research. This blend has been a game-changer for me, offering not only peace of mind but real, visible results. I apply it religiously to my belly and thighs, and the results have spoken for themselves. My skin feels soft, nourished, and strong.
