Re-influencing through De-influencing: How do we define wellness in 2023?
There is an undeniable shift taking place, and if you’ve found yourself here, curiosity has likely stirred within you as well. I’m not referring to the cosmic woohoo shifts or the umpteenth retrograde in the past few months. The modern consumer has become highly sophisticated, curious, and complex. Our needs are not singular, our health is not linear, and we find comfort in questioning unquestionably. What is well-being in 2023?
This journey began because I joke about being the most influenced consumer. So, as a not-so-discerning consumer, I stand before you, one among you, sharing the moments that have led me to start this platform. Yet, I’m also here to share the ones I’m still uncovering, stumbling upon, and have yet to learn. I approach this as a humble student and enthusiast on a mission.
Well, I have no desire to deplete your bank accounts by persuading you into exorbitantly expensive wellness regimens or luring you to purchase the latest gadget, or indulging in snail mucin. ( by the way, wait to knock it till you try it. I’m a massive advocate for Korean skincare)
Instead, my aim is to disseminate the invaluable information I’ve gathered along the way—information that has been imparted to me by healers and experts and has genuinely altered my perspective. I have worked in the health and wellness space for over seven years. Both as a business owner and a marketer. In a way, I prefer to be considered a de-influencer of sorts because, let’s face it, teaching someone about the toxicity of facial fillers and makeup is not a popular opinion in 2023. However, I firmly believe that knowledge is priceless and that this information, in some small measure, may resonate and positively impact your life.
Re-influencing- are we here for it?
I have started this platform to start asking the right questions. I am not a stagnant entity; My roots change routes every day. We find ourselves inundated with ceaseless information and content in today’s world, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. As an amateur well-being enthusiast, it has taken me years to uncover this path, wading through divergent theories, healing principles, and overwhelming amounts of information. Does any of this resonate with you?
The need for a collective space to foster balance and re-influence our endless consumerism has never been more crucial. From skincare and healthcare to alternative medicine and supplementation, the cycle of perpetual consumption can be draining.
Yet, amidst it all, there is hope—abundant hope! The holistic wellness movement is gaining momentum in today’s society. Functional medicine and traditional medicine have acknowledged each other. Ancient wisdom from Daoist teachings and Eastern-oriented disciplines such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, and homeopathy has long recognized the intricate and how inseparable the connection between the body and mind is.
Merging of worlds?
As we continue to delve into the depths of ancient knowledge, we may come to realize that the future of our well-being lies not solely in science and technology, but also holistic healing practices. The slow medicine movement beautifully captures this concept, granting doctors the time and space to forge deeper connections with their patients.
Join me on my journey—hopefully, you will find a connection, and my experiences will resonate with you. I am embarking on a quest to heal, prevent, and share the wisdom I uncover along the way. The content presented in this blog is rooted in real-life experiences. I hope it becomes a place for functional medicine healers to share and grow. I do not offer medical advice but rather the genuine, heartfelt storytelling of a human experience in the wild, wild west that is the world of well-being in 2023.
With Love, Vie xox
